What Are Case Updates?

Updates are entries that document progress, observations, communications, and work performed on a CaseWyze case. They give authorized team members a shared record of what happened and what needs attention next.

When to use an update

  • Record field observations or surveillance results.
  • Document a client call, interview, or other communication.
  • Summarize research, findings, or completed work.
  • Explain the next steps and link supporting case files.

What an update can contain

An update includes a title, update type, narrative description, and visibility access group. It can also have a related task or event, timestamped activity notes, linked case attachments, and separately recorded time and expenses.

Updates, activities, and billing

A task or event describes planned work. An update documents the work or its results. Time and expense entries record costs and effort. Linking these records provides context, but writing an update or adding timeline notes does not automatically create billable time.

Where updates appear

Open a case and select Updates. Updates may also appear in reports and related workflows. Each person sees only the updates their case access and visibility permissions allow.

Write a useful update

Use a short, descriptive title and factual narrative. Include relevant dates, times, locations, sources, results, and next steps. Distinguish direct observations from information supplied by someone else.
