Using the Subject Relationship Matrix

The Subject Relationship Matrix is a visual map of subjects and their saved relationships within a case. It helps you review connections across people, vehicles, locations, items, and businesses.

Open the matrix

  1. Open the case and select Subjects.
  2. Select Open Matrix.
  3. Review the subjects and the labeled lines connecting them.

Each node represents a subject. Each connecting line represents a saved relationship. The matrix displays recorded links; it does not infer new relationships automatically.

Explore the graph

  • Select a subject node to open its detail page.
  • Select a relationship line to see its type, the two subjects, and a source note when one is available.
  • Use the Subject Type and Relationship filters to focus the view.
  • Drag nodes to arrange the graph. Use Zoom in, Zoom out, and Fit to screen to adjust your view.
  • Select Reset layout to reset the arrangement.

Add or remove connections

Create connections from a subject’s Linked Entities panel using Link. Return to the matrix to review them.

To remove a connection, select its line, choose Delete, and confirm Delete relationship, when your permissions allow it. This removes only the connection; both subject records remain.

The matrix is empty or unavailable

Confirm that the case contains subjects you can view. Subjects without saved links will not have connecting lines. Check the filters if expected subjects or connections are missing. If loading fails, select Retry; contact your administrator or Help & Feedback if the problem continues.
