Managing Update Types

Open Settings > Update Types. This area requires Full Access and Manage Settings.

Update types provide consistent categories for case notes and work results. They help users classify updates and interpret lists and dashboard summaries.

Create or edit a category

  1. Add an update type or edit an existing entry.
  2. Enter its Value, which is the category label users select.
  3. Choose a Color for visual identification.
  4. Save the change.
  5. Use the available reorder control to arrange the list in a useful order.

Choose clear labels

Use names that describe the kind of update, such as an observation or interview, rather than a case lifecycle stage. Avoid multiple labels that mean the same thing; consistent categories make filtering and summaries easier to interpret.

Types, presets, and statuses

An update type classifies an update. A Case Update Preset supplies reusable title and body content. A Case Status describes the case's lifecycle. Changing one setting does not replace the other two.

Review existing use

Before renaming or removing a category, review its use in existing updates and reporting. Follow any usage or deletion restrictions shown by the application. After saving, check the update form and list to confirm the expected label and order.
