Choosing Between a Cloud Link and an Uploaded Copy

Choose whether the attachment should point to a live cloud file or preserve a particular copy in CaseWyze.

A link is useful for a working Google document, a shared spreadsheet, or a file maintained in OneDrive or another service. Users open the current destination subject to the provider's access rules. Changes made there are not recorded as CaseWyze attachment versions.

Upload a copy for preservation

Download or export the required version from the provider, then use Add Attachment > Upload File. CaseWyze stores the uploaded bytes and can provide hashing, version history, and evidence handling where supported.

Google documents

Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides can be saved directly as cloud-document links. For a stored snapshot, export a suitable supported file first: PDF or DOCX for a document, XLSX or CSV for a spreadsheet, and PPTX or PDF for a presentation.

Keep the distinction clear

If you retain both a link and an uploaded snapshot, use names and descriptions that identify the live source and the snapshot date. An external link alone is not a preserved evidence file and does not protect against the source changing, moving, or being deleted.
