Changing Case Status and Closing a Case

Case statuses show progress through your organization's workflow. Configured statuses are grouped into New, Open, Complete, and Closed categories.

Change the status

  1. Open the case and review its current status.
  2. Use the status selector or previous/next status controls when available.
  3. Choose the appropriate configured status and check the resulting state.
  4. Review status history where your permissions allow it.

Changing status requires Modify Case Status. Exact status controls and history can depend on View Exact Status.

Before closing

Review outstanding tasks, required updates, evidence, reports, and financial work. Choose your organization's appropriate completion or closed status. Closing is the normal way to end work while retaining the case history.

Closed and read-only cases

A closed or read-only status can restrict editing, new updates, scheduling, uploads, financial entries, email, and report generation. Do not assume every status change can be reversed through the same controls. Reopening, when offered, creates a new linked instance.

Automatic status changes

Administrators can configure supported status triggers, such as the first update, an activity completion, or a report generation. If a status changes unexpectedly, review the status history and configured triggers.
